The major application of Agar Agar is in the field of plant tissue culture. The growing interest in tissue culture as a standard method for the propagation of orchids and other ornamental plants, vegetables, fruits and other agricultural products.
Agar is used extensively in plant biology as it is optionally supplemented with a nutrient and/or vitamin mixture that allows for seedling germination in Petri dishes under sterile conditions.
Agar comes from seaweed or red algae, and is not only used as a gelling agent in the tissue culture process, but also throughout other industries too.
